Over a period of more than ten years, Elizabeth and Jon Bowen have gradually come to appreciate the connections between their plots of land in the Hautes Corbières with their complex soils and the multiplicity of local grape varieties.
The style has already been considerably refined and brings out the power of the terroirs.

Nestled in the wild, rocky hills of the Hautes Corbières, Domaine Sainte Croix is located in the commune of Fraïssé-des-Corbières, a small village on the border between Languedoc and Roussillon, 20 minutes from the Mediterranean.
Blue-steel limestone, quartz clay or green and purple schist sheets make up the 13 hectares of a complex terroir. These vines benefit from a pronounced climate in which maritime influences and those of the hinterland, which are drier and warmer, blend together.
The result is red, rosé and white wines with a strong personality, a mixture of concentration and elegance.

There are many similarities with the nearby Roussillon, a valley further south. In this region, the local dialect has its origins in Occitan, rather than French. The Grenache grapes have long been renowned here, and today the same vines are grown under the shelter of the ancient golden stone walls, bordered by fig, almond and guignier trees.

The Sainte Croix estate is run by Jon and Elizabeth Bowen, both of English origin. They have built up their experience both in old French cellars and in oversized wineries (the realm of stainless steel) all over the wine world. From the first time they looked at this "little corner", with its complex and rich geology and special climate, their professional intuition left no doubt about the potential of this terroir.

From 2011, after a three-year conversion period, the entire estate will be certified as Organic Agriculture, controlled by ECOCERT.

Since their first vintage in this very mineral landscape, more than ten years ago, Elizabeth and Jon Bowen have gradually come to appreciate the complicity between their parcels of complex soil and the multiplicity of local grape varieties.

Their willingness to experiment, while reinterpreting a local heritage that has almost been abandoned (particularly ampelographic), is very impressive. The style has already been considerably refined and brings out the power of the terroirs.
