Matias Riccitelli is one of Argentina's most exciting young winemakers. He makes a range of wines that challenge many of the preconceptions of the Mendoza region. Its wines are very fine.
The Argentinian estate of Matias Riccitelli is located in the heart of Vistalba in the Luján de Cuyo region in the province of Mendoza. The vineyards cover 20 hectares on three different sites at the foot of the Andes mountain range between 920 and 1120 meters above sea level.
Most of the vines were planted at the start of the 20th century. They are cultivated traditionally and are mostly cut into cups which limits yields. If necessary, the estate practices green harvesting. The grapes are sent to the cellar in 20 kg crates. After rigorous sorting, the grapes are fermented in small concrete vats equipped with thermal regulators. The musts are then transferred for aging in French barrels for a period that varies depending on the grape variety and the vintage.
Matias Riccitelli is the son of Jorge Riccitelli who was voted best winemaker of the year 2012 by "Wine Enthusiast" magazine. But one wonders if the son has not already passed the father!
Matias Riccitelli wines stand out for their elegance and harmony and they capture all the refinement of the Luján de Cuyo terroir, especially in Malbec, Frankish and Racy wines and Chardonnay wines, pure and mineral.
A nice Malbec, juicy on red fruits with floral and black pepper aromas. The tannins are supple and ripe and the whole is already consistent with a greedy and juicy finish.
This chardonnay is pure, mineral, classic of a cold climate (influence of the altitude on this Andes terroir), with a very nice freshness, a floral and herbaceous wine.Magnificent !
