Gin is a flavoured grain or molasses spirit. This flavouring can be done naturally, by infusion or maceration of the spirit with spices, herbs and spices, or artificially, by mixing natural or artificial gin essences.
Juniper, which gives gin its name, is an essential component.
Gin comes in several sub-categories: "Gin", which can be flavoured; "Distilled gin", produced by the redistillation of an alcohol in which natural herbs have been macerated; "London Dry Gin", a distilled gin to which no artificial element (flavouring or colouring) can be added except sugar, and in well-defined proportions.
It is this last category of gin, very qualitative, that we propose to discover through two surprising spirits.
- The Edinburgh Gin distillery, nestled in the heart of the capital, just a few steps from Edinburgh Castle, has become an ambassador of the best "London Dry Gin" style: its flavours come only from natural ingredients, with no added colouring or artificial flavours, and the residual sugar level after distillation is very low. Edinburgh Gin Seaside is directly inspired by the coastline around the city. It is distilled with seaweed and Scottish herbs to symbolise the mysterious charm of the coastline in the bottle.
- By using the original bottle format and labelling from the 1920s, Filliers Tribute pays tribute to Firmin Filliers, the creator of Filliers 28 gin (1888-1965). The result is a unique, full-bodied gin with different layers of flavour. A rare gin.
