Takeno Shuzo was founded in 1947 by the association of four Sakaguras (sake houses) that had previously been closed. Since then, they have continued to maintain the high quality of local sake.
In 2000, a local historian, Yukio Ashida, brought a variety of rice for the production of "KameNo-O" (turtle tail) sake to the director of Takeno Shuzo: Keitaira Yukimachi. Keitaira Yukimachi planted this rice and allowed Takeno Shuzo to rediscover the importance of rice selection in sake production, and their "KuramaiKame-No-O" sake won first prize in the Japan Sake Competition. Since then, Takeno has continued to work on mature, fins and complex sakes that get better and better every year.
Moreover it is one of the few houses to vintage its sakes and not record any technical information, as the beauty of their vintages can be appreciated without chiffres.
