Château Mourgues du Grès takes its name from its history.
The buildings once belonged to nuns (the "mourgues," a Provençal word for "nuns"), and "grès" refers to the rounded pebbles typical of the region's soils.
Since the 1990s, François Collard has transformed the family estate into a renowned winery, with an approach focused on respecting the terroir, nature, and minimal intervention winemaking.
The vineyard covers 55 hectares, on soils of rounded pebbles, very similar to those of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which provide warmth and drainage. The Mediterranean climate is tempered by the Mistral wind, resulting in wines that are both sunny and fresh.
Mourgues du Grès produces wines in all three colors, primarily under the AOP Costières de Nîmes appellation, but also under the IGP Pays d’Oc.
The estate has been certified organic since 2020, with sustainable vineyard management practices that avoid synthetic herbicides and insecticides.
The focus is on biodiversity, minimal sulfur use, and respectful winemaking.
The estate's wines are renowned for their freshness, balance, and pure expression of fruit and terroir. Even the powerful reds remain remarkably drinkable.
