Facing south, overlooking the Grands Crus of Ribeauvillé, this Bergheim terroir, one of the most qualitative of the finage, takes its poetic name from the checkerboard which expresses the heterogeneous nature of the surface soil made up of torrential sandstone deposits, sometimes gneissic granitic, placed on a deep matrix of lacustrine Keuper marls. These dominant characteristics give the wine a phenomenal length, a slightly tannic structure, a power barely rounded by this warm minerality so particular to rolled gravels: an iron fist in a velvet glove.

Grape varieties:
100% pinot noir

Tasting Notes:
Red wine, powerful, with polished tannins. The material is ample, muscular and deeply tactile, like this clay soil. A beautiful red wine to keep, charming.

Wine style:
Elegant and fruity red wine.

Food and wine :
Roasted wild boar fillet, pumpkin purée with porcini mushrooms and braised chestnuts. Leg of venison with thyme and tender roasted turnips.
