The Domaine Borie de Maurel
THE AREA
The Domaine Borie de Maurel is located in the heart of the terroir of the Livinière (Félines-Minervois), the first appellation Villages of the Minervois and Languedoc.
In 1989 Michel Escande dropped his other passion, sailing, to return to the country. And he sendette for 5 hectares of vines, a cellar and a superb but "satisfied" building, in passing he decides to take care of the family vines. Since the late 1980s, Michel Escande has been one of the best winemakers in the Minervois region, thanks in particular to the beautifully confitted and silky tannins of his reds.
With the tenacity of the sailor and the faith of the peasant, Michel will learn his terroir, listen to him, until discover that he holds a real treasure. What his cuvées, starting with Sylla, acclaimed by the international press, will soon prove, from the early 1990s. Until it is nicknamed, in the world of wine, "the sorcerer of Felix".
This domain is certified organic.

THE TERROIR
One of the peculiarities of the region of Borie de Maurel is the extraordinary diversity of soils.
The estate now comprises 35 hectares of vines, gripped, in the pebbles, on the slopes of the Black Mountain. In the north of the Lion Golf Course at the foot of the Black Mountain, the vineyard is located between 200 and 400m above sea level.
To simplify, let's say that their soils are divided into two categories:
- Warm land, where limestone clays and silts have accumulated, is the preferred location for mourvad, grenache, carignan and cinsault.
- The highlands up to 300 metres above sea level, with the mudslides of marne and limestone removed from the mountain by erosion and the old glaciers, this part enjoys some freshness.
THE WINE
From the spontaneous Spirit of autumn to the mythical Sylla through the Féline, Maxime and the enchanting Belle de Nuit, they all tell a "time" of the domain and reflect its soul.

Maxime is the youngest son of Michel Escande,
Beautiful night is the moon as the domain is on a principle of Biodynamics,
Sylla is the name of the great grandfather and the middle name of his eldest son Gabriel,
The Wine of the Sorcerer for Michel which is called the sorcerer in the village and because being in Biodynamics for 30 years reflects it well.
