It was in 1868 that the Guy family settled at Domaine de Coujan. Since then, they have nurtured their love of nature and wine, magnificently harnessing the rare richness of this Saint-Chinian terroir.
Imagine an island of fossilized coral, ideally draining the soil of a vineyard, and plant it with noble grape varieties, as François Guy did. Add to that the passion of this man, who played a significant role in the development of the Saint-Chinian appellation, and you will have a better understanding of what has made Coujan wines so renowned.
Today, his daughter Florence manages the estate. The estate covers 54 hectares. The vines are planted on hillsides at an altitude of 140 meters on clay-limestone soil.
In the autumn of 2008, the gradual conversion of the estate's 140 arable hectares to organic farming began. This was a natural progression for the Guy family, who saw a new balance gradually taking shape.
Insects, butterflies, birds, vines, orchards, medicinal plants, fields, and scrubland now coexist, making Château Coujan an island of biodiversity.
The estate offers a diverse range of wines, from the most approachable to exceptional vintages. The work in the vineyard and the cellar is carried out with meticulous care to produce wines that respect the balance between fruit, acidity, and tannic structure.
Château de Coujan wines are often characterized by their finesse, elegance, and aging potential. They regularly win awards at competitions and are appreciated for their consistent quality.
