Agnanum: the authentic expression of the volcanic wines of the Campi Flegrei
Situated on the volcanic hills of Agnano, in the heart of the Astroni Nature Reserve near Naples, Agnanum is an iconic family-run winery in the Campi Flegrei, one of Italy’s most distinctive volcanic terroirs. Founded by Gennaro Moccia in the 1960s and now run by Raffaele Moccia, the estate continues to practise traditional winemaking based on respect for the terroir and local traditions.
An exceptional volcanic terroir
Agnanum’s vines are planted on steep terraces composed of volcanic sand resulting from the ancient volcanic activity of the Campi Flegrei. This terrain necessitates entirely manual labour, often described as ‘heroic viticulture’. Low yields, late harvests and minimal intervention in winemaking allow the production of wines of great authenticity, true to their origins.
Production philosophy
Agnanum favours limited production to ensure optimal quality. Each cuvée is crafted with particular attention to the expression of the volcanic terroir, the preservation of indigenous grape varieties and the transmission of the Campi Flegrei’s wine-growing heritage. The wines are released after a long ageing period to achieve their best aromatic balance.
