Tasting Notes :
Deep color with golden highlights, a surprisingly characterful and fresh nose with saline notes
and a multitude of aromas with both volcanic and maritime accents.
On the palate, it has character with a lovely minerality, a touch rustic but so authentic and expressive that one quickly forgets a slight lack of finesse.
A sincere and straightforward southern white wine.
Food Pairing :
Zucchini, tomato, and herb gratin.
Tagliatelle with seafood and saffron.
Presentation :
We are here on volcanic soil in a very special location on a small terraced vineyard
with a majority of century-old vines in a single block, nestled between the Bosco degli Astroni, a natural park where Neapolitan nobility used to hunt, and… the Naples ring road!
Another unique aspect is that the winemaker has a second business: rabbit slaughtering, with a processing facility adjacent to the cellar.
Once you know all this, doubts might creep in, but that's where the delightful surprise comes in: the wines possess an incredible character, complexity, and finesse.
Truly enough to astonish even the most discerning palates.

Situated on the volcanic hills of Agnano, in the heart of the Astroni Nature Reserve near Naples, Agnanum is an iconic family-run winery in the Campi Flegrei, one of Italy’s most distinctive volcanic terroirs. Founded by Gennaro Moccia in the 1960s and now run by Raffaele Moccia, the estate continues to practise traditional winemaking based on respect for the terroir and local traditions.
Agnanum’s vines are planted on steep terraces composed of volcanic sand resulting from the ancient volcanic activity of the Campi Flegrei. This terrain necessitates entirely manual labour, often described as ‘heroic viticulture’. Low yields, late harvests and minimal intervention in winemaking allow the production of wines of great authenticity, true to their origins.
Agnanum favours limited production to ensure optimal quality. Each cuvée is crafted with particular attention to the expression of the volcanic terroir, the preservation of indigenous grape varieties and the transmission of the Campi Flegrei’s wine-growing heritage. The wines are released after a long ageing period to achieve their best aromatic balance.
