A courageous project of "wine archeology", which speaks of passion.
Proprietà Sperino is the realization of a dream: to restore the important tradition of Lessona wines by recovering historic cellars to produce a wine with the greatest respect for local tradition.
In the 1970s, Paolo de Marchi moved to Tuscany where he founded the splendid Isole & Olena wine estate which played a leading role in the rebirth of Chianti Classico. But his desire was to one day return to his family origins, and indeed in 1999 with his son Luca he did so, and took over the reins of the historic family estate, at the Castle of Lessona in via Sperino.
Luca de Marchi, with a Tuscan accent, explains with a smile: "I don't make wine, I produce Nebbiolo." No wonder the 35-year-old moved to northern Piedmont after studying linguistics and ended up becoming a winemaker, because the crazy passion for wine is clearly present in the family.
The grapes ferment in the historic Castello di Lessona: an impressive estate that looks back on a hundred years of history from the dynasty of doctors of the Sperino family. 1904 is the last vintage bottled by a Sperino before the estate was bequeathed to the de Marchi. Father and son carried on the impressive family legacy, bringing back a Lessona DOC from La Propietà Sperino almost a century later. Luca de Marchi is convinced "that Lessona and the north of Piedmont have a bright future ahead of them". Its Lessona DOC wine has a unique finesse that a Nebbiolo grape variety can only produce in this region. The work in the cellar is also characterized by the precise extraction of tannins, as the expert hand of his father knows. And in addition to the Uvaggio Coste della Sesia DOC blend, the young oenologist also produces a fruity and fresh rosé from nebbiolo and vespolina grapes - and only in the best years a pure Cabernet Franc, which you should definitely look for if you enjoy this grape variety.
Uvaggio and Lessona are the two flagship cuvées with very Piedmontese origins.
An area of excellence that knows how to create wines with masterful balances.
