Nikka
Yoichi - Single malt
Distillerie Yoichi
The first distillery of the Nikka house, Yoichi is located on the coast of Hokkaido, the northernmost island of Japan. Produced using traditional methods, such as direct charcoal toasting, the malts perfectly display the authentic character of this exceptional place with their marine and fine peaty notes.
This Yoichi bottling is today the only representative of Nikka's historic single malt. A blend of whiskies of different ages, it expresses a subtle balance between smoky, fruity and floral aromas.
Tasting notes :
Nose: both firm and pulpy. It oscillates between candied lemon and exotic fruits. Superbly vanilla-flavoured, it gradually becomes spicy (cloves, pepper, nutmeg). Particularly fresh, it develops on notes of verbena and tarragon.
Palate: lively, powerful. It is racy and elegant. Vanilla and praline initially cover the palate. The mid-palate is dominated by citrus and ripe fruit (pear, plum). Liquorice adds an oily touch before honeysuckle, lily and cardamom make it heady.
Finish: long, rich. It is spicy. The influence of bourbon barrel ageing is evident in the notes of vanilla and butterscotch. Fine notes of ash and smoke gradually appear. Sweet orange and mango on the retro-olfaction.
