Tasting notes:
Aged for fifteen long years in Slavonian oak casks, this is a smooth and rounded grappa, complex and long on the palate,
characterised by notes of vanilla, oak, tobacco, resin and spices.
Intensely spicy, it also showcases fruity and floral notes.
Food pairings:
Roasted figs with honey and mild spices;
Delicately caramelised figs, enhanced with a touch of honey and spices, which echo the notes of candied fruit
and the woody sweetness of the grappa.
Presentation:
Nardini grappa is said to have been modestly launched in 1748 by Bortolo Nardini in the small town of Bassano, not far from Venice.
The construction of a bridge passing directly beneath his windows was to bring in a few new customers two years later.
Nardini grappa owes its success to the war.
With the laws of the Most Serene Republic having been abolished by Bonaparte, Bortolo Nardini seized the opportunity to obtain a distiller’s licence and set up shop in Venice, a shop still run by his heirs today and just as it was on the day it opened in the 18th century.
This shop became a meeting place for a number of tramps, and it was by selling them the dregs from jars and barrels at low prices that Nardini discovered the art of ‘blending’, which was subsequently used by almost all producers of fine spirits,
whether blended whiskies or cognacs.
