Castilla y León is a wine region that includes some of Spain's most emblematic appellations such as Ribera del Duero, Toro, Bierzo and Rueda. Although Barco del Corneta's vineyards are planted within the latter, they are labelled 'Castilla y León'. Indeed, as the winery is located just outside the Rueda D.O., regulations require it to bear the name of the D.O. that encompasses the Rueda appellation.
Beatriz Herranz likes to find very old plots of land to restore them and allow them to give the best of themselves. She is a true lover of old vines and some of them are up to 150 years old! The stocks of these old vineyards (free standing) which are on sandy soils have nothing to do with the current clones of Rueda.
Located at an average altitude of 700 metres, the vineyards are mainly planted with verdejo, the emblematic white grape variety of the region.
