Francisco de Carabantes started growing vines in Peru in 1540. The region of Ica where he settled is very special: a vast oasis surrounded by desert, not far from the Pacific Ocean, 300 kilometres south of Lima. The alluvial landscape was shaped during the thaw periods of prehistoric times. This created valleys with rivers running through them, with gravelly soils, ideal for vineyards.
The Tacama vineyard is one of the only authentically Peruvian vineyards, most of the other estates make wine from must imported from Chile and Argentina. Since 1920, the estate has collaborated with France in terms of grape varieties, technology and oenological consultants.
Today, Frédéric Thibaut is in charge of the estate after Robert Niederman has worked there for more than forty years.
The flagship grape varieties for the reds are Tannat and Petit Verdot, which produce world-class wines in single-varietal or blended form.

Tasting notes:
This pure Petit Verdot, an ancient Bordeaux grape variety, has a dense, almost saturated ruby colour, an intense and complex nose with aromas of plum and peppery liquorice. On the palate, the wine is rich, with fruit perfectly balanced by tannins and acidity. This is a wine not without class!
