Aberlour A’bunadh Alba is intended to be the successor to A’bunadh whisky: from the Gaelic word for ‘origin’, in homage to Aberlour’s founder, James Fleming.

It is a ‘cask-strength’ single malt, bottled at cask strength, meaning no water has been added. Its production method evokes the powerful flavour of traditional malts, remaining true to the classic profile of Speyside whiskies.

Alba refers to Quercus Alba, the type of American white oak used to mature A’bunadh Alba.

Coincidentally, Alba is also the name for Scotland in Scottish Gaelic. The English name refers to the light colour of the bark of certain species.

Found mainly in eastern North America, white oaks grow much faster than most European oak species and can live for hundreds of years.

The durability of American white oak, along with its ability to retain water and allow oxygenation, makes it ideal for bourbon casks. American oak is denser and harder than French oak, making the casks less prone to leakage.
