Maturana, by José-Ignacio Maturana, is a true artisanal wine, almost a garage wine.
It was after the earthquake of 2010 that this estate was created and it only produces two wines. Its production is between 3500 and 4000 bottles.
The grapes come from some of the best vineyards in the Cachapoal Valley and the wines are made from Carménère and Cabernet Sauvignon. The harvests are manual in 3 kg crates and a strict sorting is carried out. The grapes are destemmed and the fermentation takes place in small containers. Human intervention is kept to a minimum. Everything is done by gravity without pumping.
Grape varieties:
90% cabernet sauvignon and 10% petit verdot.
Vinification: Manual harvest, 50% indigenous yeasts. Pre-fermentation maceration for 7 days then fermentation in small stainless steel vats for 10 days. 5-day maceration.
Aging: 10 months in neutral barrels of 225 - 300 l. Not glued.
Tasting Notes:
A palette that is very faithful to the image and idea of this Cabernet Sauvignon at this latitude. A fair definition with a beautiful maturity and freshness. A hint of eucalyptus and menthol from Cabernet, this graphite side, a spicy touch brought by the woody notes. A subtle nose that remains attractive and charming. The mouth is dense and tight with a nice texture. It is not an extracted wine, the tannins are balanced and bring good length.
Wine style:
Complex and delicate red wine.
