Dominio del Aguila
Picaro del Aguila 2017
Ribera del Duero DO
Espagne - Castilla y Leon
![]()
If we wanted to summarize the Ribera del Duero in a few lines we could say: first there was Vega Sicilia then came Pesquera and Peter Sisseck from Dominio de Pingus who enshrined the preeminence of Tempranillo in the region. Now it will also be necessary to count on Jorge Monzón of the Dominio del Aguila estate who is starting a new turn for the Ribera with his vineyards of old vines often pre-phylloxera planted at an altitude of 830-880 meters in the region of Aguilera.
Although mostly planted with tempranillo (tinta del pais), the vineyards are in fact planted with cariñena (carignan), blanca del pais, garnacha, bobal for the reds and bruñal, albilo major, moscatel and malvasia for the whites. And Jorge Monzón plays with all these varieties to produce a range of wines, reds, rosés and whites. Rarely seen in the Ribera del Duero, which focuses mainly on extracted and woody reds, the opposite of Jorge Monzón's wines. The viticulture is organic and the treatments are mainly carried out with plants and algae. The winery is not trivial either, because Jorge and Isabel, his wife, work in an old restored 17th century farmhouse with a 15th century cellar.

The Hakushu Distiller's Reserve
Fine and elegant, Hakushu Distiller's Reserve is a blend of lightly peated and very peated spirits, marked by notes of citrus (yuzu and lemon), mint and smoked tea
The color is cherry, intense, with garnet reflections. The nose is fruity, generous, marked by aromas of stewed fruits.
Beautiful Chardonnay with a modern style, aged for 7 months in oak barrels, with a nice balance between crunchy fruits and a subtly integrated woodiness
